FLIGHT NEWS SOUTH AMERICA
New Air Transat flights:
Rio – Toronto & Montreal
Air Transat began operations in Brazil in Feb 2026, launching new direct flights from Rio de Janeiro (GIG) to Toronto (YYZ) & Montreal (YUL). Notably, it is currently the only airline offering a non-stop route between Montreal & Rio, strengthening access between Canada & Brazil. The service operates weekly as follows: GIG–YYZ (Thu, Sat); GIG–YUL (Fri). Both routes are operated seasonally with Airbus A330 aircraft: YYZ–GIG (Wed, Sat) until 10 Jun 2026; YUL–GIG (Thu) until 4 Jun 2026.
New daily Avianca flights:
Cusco - La Paz
Avianca increased its service between Cusco (CUZ) & La Paz (LPB) to daily flights in Mar 2026, strengthening connectivity between Peru & Bolivia. The daily operation adds 4,600 seats per month on this route and enhances flexibility for travellers. La Paz serves as a strategic hub for onward connections to destinations such as Uyuni & Sucre, while Cusco remains the main gateway to southern Peru. The route offers a daily direct flight: CUS-LPB at 12:30–14:45; LPB-CUS at 15:50-16:05.
New Latam flight:
Cuenca – Galápagos
LATAM has launched a new route connecting Cuenca (CUE) with Baltra (GPS) in the Galápagos as of 31 March 2026. The outbound flight operates with a technical stop in Quito (UIO), while the return flight runs non-stop from GPS to CUE, offering a convenient same-day connection for flexible itineraries, particularly for island-hopping programs. The service operates twice weekly: CUE–UIO–GPS (Tue, Sat) at 07:38–10:10 / 07:55–10:27; GPS–CUE (Tue, Sat) at 10:50–13:42 / 11:07–13:59.
