SAT ARGENTINA
Despite having the third-longest coastline in South America, Argentina is not a classic beach destination. Much of its coastline is located in Patagonia, where the Atlantic meets rugged landscapes. While seaside towns such as Mar del Plata in the Buenos Aires province mostly attract locals, for a proper beach holiday we recommend crossing the Río de la Plata to Uruguay's sandy shores. Still, Argentina offers great alternatives: in summer, the Lake District around Bariloche becomes a haven for swimming, water sports and relaxing by the shore. On the Patagonian coast, Puerto Madryn boasts a long city beach that is perfect for summer dips. Just north of here lies the Valdés Peninsula, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its diverse wildlife. Those seeking a more off-the-beaten-track experience will find it in Puerto Pirámides or Bahía Bustamante, where nature and beaches remain unspoilt.
Argentina’s Lake District
In Northern Patagonia, the Lake District welcomes travellers seeking to combine outdoor adventures with moments of lakeside relaxation. From kayaking and windsurfing to fishing and hiking, the region offers countless ways to enjoy its pristine landscapes. From Jan to Feb, when summer peaks, the lakeside beaches are particularly inviting for swimming.
Hotel Recommendation
The brand-new Radisson Blu Bariloche brings modern luxury to the shores of Lake Nahuel Huapi, just 1 km from Bariloche’s city centre. The hotel features striking architecture, panoramic lake views, and world-class facilities, such as the LAHUAN Wellness Spa with heated indoor and outdoor pools, a lakeside deck, jacuzzi, saunas and a wide range of treatments.

Correntoso Lake and River Hotel, a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, is a boutique retreat in Villa La Angostura, just 1 hour from Bariloche airport. Described by The New York Times as 'Argentina’s secret answer to the Galapagos,' the lodge provides immersive experiences in geology, archeology and wildlife observation, from penguin colonies to sea lion rookeries. Its season runs from Oct to Easter.
