Refuge Domes - Lodge Caleta Gonzalo l Pumalin Douglas Tompkins National Park
The image of the domes are referential and correspond to the standard domes at Ecocamp Patagonia.
Opening in December 2025, Lodge Caleta Gonzalo will offer a new, back-to-basics way to experience Northern Patagonia with the addition of 5 Refuge Domes set in a quiet, forested area of the campground. Located along the legendary Carretera Austral, this rustic eco-lodge is the perfect base for exploring Pumalín Douglas Tompkins National Park.
Taking inspiration from the minimalist dome concept of Ecocamp Patagonia – another pioneering project by the same founders – the 3.6 m domes provide simple, comfortable accommodation for travellers seeking an immersive nature experience. Each dome features a double or twin bed, interior lighting, warm blankets and a USB charging port. Shared bathrooms with hot showers are reserved exclusively for dome guests. While there’s no heating or private facilities, guests can enjoy pure stillness, starry nights and a deep connection to the surrounding landscape.
Framed by fjords, ancient forests, waterfalls and dramatic peaks, the lodge also offers rustic wooden cabins and a restaurant, both originally designed by conservation pioneers Doug and Kris Tompkins. The easiest way to reach Caleta Gonzalo is to take a 35-min flight by Aerocord from Puerto Montt to Chaitén, followed by a 1-hour drive—though ferry routes and road trips through Patagonia’s most scenic stretches are also unforgettable options.
