SAT CHILE

Dear Travel Partner!

let's introduce our SAT Chile team, following our special 50 Years SAT newsletter series!

In 2001 we founded SAT Chile in Santiago de Chile, a vibrant capital surrounded by the snow-capped Andes. Chile is simply amazing - the longest country in the world, with stunning scenery from the desert in the north to glaciers and ice in the south and Antarctica, and fertile wine areas and the Lake District in between. Easter Island, Rapa Nui, gives the mainland an exotic South Pacific touch. A perfect place for nature lovers!

OUR SAT CHILE TEAM
MARÍA ELENA BARRIENTOS, General Manager SAT Chile
Greetings from Santiago!

Chile is a beautiful country, from the immensity of the Atacama Desert to our Patagonia, that invites you to enjoy such a diverse geography that amazes all those who visit us!
I am María Elena Barrientos and I have been part of the great SAT Chile team for a few months now. I have more than 29 years of experience in tourism, which has allowed me to explore the country, its beautiful landscapes, culture and above all, our people. Chile is a safe place to travel that combines desert, volcanoes, forests, glaciers, islands and many beautiful places to discover. My favorite destination is unquestionably Torres del Paine National Park, where you can find a piece of heaven on earth.  Here I want to share with you my recent experience doing one of the most famous trekking circuits in the world: W Circuit, undoubtedly a unique experience that invites you to be part of this extreme nature, and to everyone who wants to know the Patagonia alive. Our great team in Chile is always attentive, aspiring to make your traveller’s experience of Chile the best possible.
Come and enjoy Chile: we are Open Nature.
TAMARA SIMUNOVIC, Operations Supervisor
I have been working in tourism since 2008 and have been part of the SAT Chile team since 2013.
I started in tourism as a tour guide in Santiago and San Pedro de Atacama, later on, as a Park Ranger in Puyehue National Park and afterwards working in the airline industry. Tourism has allowed me to get to know different places in my country with its beautiful landscapes: San Pedro de Atacama, Puerto Varas, and Torres del Paine... my list does not end here.
But it is important to know hidden and not so well-known places and one of my favorites is Cajón del Maipo, a sector of the metropolitan region that stands out for its beauty, nature, clean air, and a must for trekking or horseback riding and rafting. Enjoy the exquisite thermal waters in the different hot springs that you can find in Cajón del Maipo and experience the benefits of the mountain waters. If you are looking to appreciate nature, please take advantage of your stay in Santiago by visiting El Cajon del Maipo!
MAYLIG PEINADO, Product Development & Negotiations
My journey to this beautiful country began 14 years ago when I decided to move from my homeland Colombia to Chile. Here I graduated as a Tourism and Hospitality manager. My beginnings in SAT Chile were as an intern in 2016. Working here has made me develop a keen eye for detail and a passion for creating and designing unforgettable experiences. I have had the opportunity to explore the most beautiful destinations around Chile, from the picturesque Valparaíso to the snow-capped mountains of the Andes. My passion for travel has taken me to places that I could only dream of as a child, and you cannot imagine how I felt when I visited Elqui Valley, the birthplace of poet Gabriela Mistral and the heart of Chilean pisco production. Elqui Valley is famous for its futuristic observatories and solar restaurants where you can taste the food prepared by the sun. Being there with my family and seeing the Milky Way, constellations and planets at night, was one of the best experiences in my life. Looking for a stargazing? Come to Chile and visit the clearest skies in the world.
DIXIANA MIRANDA, Sales Executive
I have been working in the travel industry for over 13 years and am very passionate about all the beauty our country has to offer.
I have had the chance to explore my country from the far north all the way to Lago Chungara in Arica which is one of the highest lakes in the world, San Pedro de Atacama, the most arid desert in the world; sail through Patagonia’s fjords and visit the 8th wonder of the world: Torres del Paine.
As you can see, Chile never ceases to amaze. I live in Santiago and love the outdoors. One of my favorite places that has a mix of nature, culture, and gastronomy is the Colchagua Valley that is only a 2-hour drive away from Santiago.  It is a lovely place to travel, especially on weekends, and enjoy time with family and friends. This valley is known for its wine, many wineries offer tours and wine tasting. This region for me is a place I always want to come back to.
KARINA FLÓREZ, Sales Executive
I studied tourism in Valparaíso and have been working in the industry since 2000. I worked in the reservations department of a hotel in Santiago, then in sales for different incoming tour operators with clients from all over the world.
On my trips, I always like to walk around the place where I stay to get to know the surroundings. I recommend coming to discover the magic of San Pedro de Atacama with its attractions such as watching the sunset in the Moon Valley, exploring the highland lagoons, or enjoying a breakfast at Geysers del Tatio. All this without leaving behind the astronomical tour with one of the clearest skies in Chile.
I also always try the typical drink of each place. In San Pedro de Atacama there is the “Rica-Rica Sour”, a delicious drink made from a plant with many properties. What I like to do most in San Pedro is end the stay relaxing in the Puritama Hot Springs or the Cejar Lagoon, due to the high concentration of these salts one will be able to float in its waters.
MARCELA VERGARA, Account Executive
I have worked in tourism for more than 30 years and have been at SAT Chile for three months now, although my name must sound familiar to long-time SAT people as I worked at SAT Chile from 2005 to 2009.
I love selling Chile. I think it is a destination with great potential: in the north the desert, the center with its vineyards, in the south lakes, volcanoes, Patagonia with its glaciers, and Antarctica.
Personally, the destination that I like the most is the Chilean Patagonia, North and South, with all its charm, especially in autumn when the trees change the colour of their leaves and the wind cracks the branches.
This picture was in Glacier Exploradores, Carretera Austral in Puerto Tranquilo, it was one of the most beautiful trips where I could visit the ice caves and walk through glaciers. It was something really wonderful and something that everyone would want to experience once in their lifetime.
JUAN CARLOS CORREA, Account Executive
I started in tourism in the late 90s when I left my country for the first time, traveling from Chile to Canada.
That's where my adventure in tourism began when I joined Royal Caribbean for almost 8 years, getting to know many countries. After returning to Chile, I worked as a tour guide in SAT Chile for years until I got the opportunity to work in the reservation department to create experiences for our passengers, wishing to explore this wonderful country.
I would like to highlight above all Patagonia. Having the opportunity to sit on the edge of the Strait of Magellan and contemplate the history of the continent is priceless!
And when we go inland, specifically Torres del Paine National Park, it’s amazing how one connects with nature and the beauty of the place. Passing through the quiet town of Puerto Natales, I definitely recommend doing it by bike, getting to know its streets and the bay, feeling the Patagonian wind, and letting yourself be seduced by the flavours of a Magellan lamb with a delicious craft beer. Everyone is invited!
VERÓNICA CASTELLANOS, Account Executive
I have been working in tourism for 21 years, passionate about organizing trips and traveling.
I have been working for SAT Chile for almost a year, I am Peruvian, and I work remotely, because I live in Lima.
I have the opportunity to show tourists the benefits and attractions that Chile offers. I hope to be able to travel there soon and get to know it a little more. I am especially interested in visiting Pucón in Araucanía Region, a town in southern Chile that sits on the shores of Lake Villarrica.
I would like to visit Pucón because it is a place surrounded by nature, which makes it ideal for outdoor excursions, extreme sports and to relax. Also, you can visit Villarrica Volcano, an active volcano that towers over the town of Pucón. Visitors can hike to the top of the volcano, or take a cable car to the crater.
Pucón is a town that has something to offer for everyone.
CECILIA VERGARA, Handling Supervisor
My name is Cecilia, and I started to work at SAT in 2014, first as a Handling assistant, then as Account Executive, and now as a Supervisor for our Handling Department working to provide passengers an elite and personalized service. In my free time, I read good books, do homework with my son, spend time with my family, and visit the beach that is close to Santiago.
One of my favourite destinations is Easter Island, or Isla de Pascua. It is a fascinating destination not only due to the archaeological sites and the Moais, but also for the beautiful beaches and landscape in general, the remoteness of the Island, and the people living there who are all very proud of their origin and their culture. Let yourself be captivated by the Rapa Nui culture!
Paulina Parra & Valdo Romero, Administration Team
I am Paulina Parra Hernández, Treasurer and Supplier Analyst in SAT Chile since 2011.
I had the opportunity to travel from Puerto Montt, Los Lagos region, sailing on Skorpios Cruises and navigating through spectacular archipelagos, channels, and gulfs through the Chonos route.
It is a beautiful ship and the staff is very friendly, they make you feel like family.
My favourite place was Laguna San Rafael, which is located in the Aysén region, one of the largest Glaciers in the Northern Ice fields of Chilean Patagonia and the third largest ice reserve. I loved the excursions on the glaciers and I was able to have contact with the flora and fauna of the area. I already want to come back again!
My name is Valdo Romero Rojas. I am administrator and financial manager and I have been working in SAT Chile since 2008.
I have had the wonderful opportunity to visit different places in Chile, such as San Pedro de Atacama, Easter Island, The Wine Route, Puerto Varas in the Lake District, Punta Arenas, and Strait of Magellan in South Patagonia, as well as different vineyards around the metropolitan region.
The place I liked the most is Easter Island, for its history, nature, incredible magic and mystique. In the picture I was in Rano Kau volcano, exploring the largest volcanic crater on Rapa Nui, incredibly, this crater holds a beautiful freshwater lagoon.
It is time for you to discover Easter Island and its secrets!
SOME TIPS FROM THE TEAM
HIDDEN TREASURES: Bike & Beer in the Lake District
Llanquihue Lake in the Lake District is Chile's second largest lake and is surrounded by picturesque landscapes and charming towns.
In this region, travellers find numerous biking trails for all skill levels. And as it happens, this area is also known for its craft breweries. A combination of biking, brewery visits and the natural beauty of Llanquihue Lake seems to be a perfect fit! One of the tours we offer starts in the Río Pescado area, from where you will be pedalling for interior roads. The first part of the ride will be surrounded by green lands and farms, with a touch of the local culture. After 40 km you will reach a local brewery, where you get an introduction to craft brewing and you will taste different varieties of beer such as bock, stout and pale. A delightful and refreshing end of our journey.
Don't forget to sample some local cuisine as well, including traditional Chilean dishes and fresh seafood from the nearby Pacific coast.
