OUR SAT ARGENTINA TEAM
Christina Herbst, General Manager SAT Argentina
Buenos días from Argentina!
My name is Christina Herbst and since a bit more than eight years I can call Buenos Aires my home, moving there in February 2015 to take over the role as General Manager of SAT Argentina.
SAT Argentina has been the second of our local SAT offices, after SAT Brazil, offering the immense variety of experiences Argentina calls its own to travelers from all over the world.
Some visit us only for a short stay before and after an Antarctica cruise, others take Buenos Aires as a gateway to visit the famous Iguazú Falls that we share with Brazil and that are, in my opinion, one of the TOP highlights of South America. Definitely an experience you can´t miss! Personally I have traveled there several times now and don´t ever get tired of seeing this natural beauty.
But, what we love most are the travelers that dedicate some more time to our beautiful country, ideally two or three weeks. The country is huge and as a consequence, the landscapes are really diverse. Patagonia and its scenery is famous all over the world, and the Argentinean Malbec wine from Mendoza can also be found in many wine cellars, not only in Argentina. But, there are some more hidden treasures that our country has to offer – read more of that below, in the personal recommendations of our team!
My personal suggestion however is to take some more time in order to discover Buenos Aires – people usually stay only two or three nights at the beginning or at the end of their trip, but there is so much more to see! The cultural offer is very rich and you´ll be able to see an interesting mix between the European heritage and authentic Argentinean lifestyle. Great Restaurants and lovely cafés will make your stay more than pleasant. And why not spend a night at an Estancia instead of only going to the countryside for a day?
Whatever you choose, my experienced team and I will be more than happy to assist you in creating interesting travel programs. It is a privilege for us to be able to promote our beloved country and to be able to welcome visitors from all over the world!
FERNANDO GROSSO, Account Executive
My name is Fernando and one of my favourite regions of Argentina is the Northwest of the country, the region around Salta and Jujuy.
The landscapes are amazing and ever-changing as you move forward, also the food is delicious! Why not try some of the yummy Empanadas? I know they are popular all over Argentina (and South America), but the ones you get in Salta and Jujuy are absolutely outstanding! Also, you will find many plates with Quinoa on the menus of the Restaurant – Quinoa has become more and more popular due to its rich nutritional properties and is being grown in this very region.
Being a musician, I also enjoy the unique music of this region which is truly remarkable. When people hear Argentina they usually think of Tango as the typical dance, however, Folklore music is also very popular. If you want to get a taste of it, just search for “Carnavalito Humahuaqueño”. Folklore is characterized by its traditional dances and colourful dresses. If you go out to one of the many cosy bars of Salta or Jujuy, as well as of the many villages of the region, you might want to get a glimpse of it live on stage!
SILVINA LOMBARDI, Senior Account Executive
The very place I also love to visit within Argentina is the Northwest of the country, the provinces of Salta and Jujuy, and who has a little bit more time can also include Catamarca and Tucuman. This is a magical place for me, with its small cities and villages, the contrast of colours, the blue sky and the friendliness of the inhabitants.
For instance one place worth visiting is the Pucará de Tilcara, an archaeological site on top of a hill, within the “Quebrada de Humahuaca”.
Another amazing place to visit and where you can also stay overnight at some of the cosy hotels is Purmamarca, in the province of Jujuy and located near the “Cerro de los Siete Colores” which is famous for its different colours that are due to the different minerals.
It´s also characterized by its adobe houses and the popular handicraft market in the centre.
I find it ideal to stay several days in the region as there are so many places to discover, also the distances between one village or city are huge and altitude might affect you, so it´s recommendable to plan several days and take your time to enjoy the region without being in a hurry.
MARIA SILVINA ROMERO, Account Executive
San Carlos de Bariloche in the Lake District is my favourite place in Argentina, I´m traveling there quite frequently as a good friend of mine is living in Bariloche. During each trip I discover something new, which is amazing! For instance during my last trip I discovered Colonia Suiza, a small village where visitors can buy nice souvenirs and which is very picturesque. The town is famous for its “curanto”, a plate which is being prepared below ground and consists of several types of meat and vegetables. You can experience the whole cooking process from starting the fire until it´s being uncovered and offered to the visitors.
NINA TONELLI, Operations Manager
Argentina is a huge country but I actually love my home town, Buenos Aires, as there are so many spots to explore, apart from the usual tourist attractions.
You will be able to enjoy amazing food at the many Restaurants of the city, as well as a great variety of cultural activities, music and nightlife.
So it´s truly worth to spend some more days in the city in order to discover all the hidden spots!
For instance, Palacio Barolo is a very interesting building, reflecting from an architectural standpoint the “Divina Commedia” from Dante Alighieri.
A visit will provide with you lots of interesting facts about this building, amazing panoramic views over the city and you can combine it with dinner at some of the nearby Pizzerias to live the true local experience.

JOSEFINA ETCHEBARNE, Account Executive
Argentina is such a big country with so many different landscapes, that I find it hard to decide for just one favourite place, but if I have to choose, I believe that place is Patagonia.
It is such an extensive piece of land, so quiet and deserted that it is really breath-taking. Glaciers, mountains, lakes, rivers… simply nature at its best! Specifically the Perito Moreno Glacier in El Calafate is one of my favourite places to visit. Apart from visiting the viewing platforms you can do fun activities such as Trekking on the Glacier itself, hiking or different boat trips that all allow you to get to know this very special place from a different angle and viewpoint.

My preferred destination within Argentina is Iguazú.
The Iguazú Falls are a place I have visited several times already and never get bored of traveling there. They are really unique and beautiful, the huge masses of water as well as the jungle around it transmit an energy that is outstanding and that I haven´t experienced anywhere else.
It is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and without a doubt a place that you can´t miss when visiting Argentina! Iguazú can be visited all year round and no matter whether it´s sunny or raining, its colours are always amazing.

I personally love to spend time at the beaches of Santa Clara del Mar, which is a small town located near Mar del Plata. The beaches are very quiet and ideal for spending time with your family or doing outdoor activities such as volleyball, which is a sport I love to play! For me it´s the perfect place to spend Christmas and New Year, escaping from the big city of Buenos Aires.
Santa Clara del Mar has a small city centre, pretty laid-back, but for more activities you can easily reach Mar del Plata which is only a few kilometres away. It is a unique place to calm down and relax, and to connect with the sea and the nature. I love swimming, playing volleyball and having a Mate at the beach with a couple of Churros.
SOME TIPS FROM THE TEAM
HIDDEN TREASURES: Los Antiguos, an Oasis in Patagonia
Los Antiguos, a charming town in the northwest corner of the province of Santa Cruz, sits on the shores of Lake Buenos Aires, South America’s second largest lake after Lake Titicaca, with unparalleled deep blue waters. The small town nestles in a prodigious landscape where rivers, lakes and snow-capped peaks of the Andes mountain range stand out, with a uniquely warm, lake-influenced microclimate.
It is called an oasis in Patagonia.
Much fruit and vegetables are cultivated, and the town is even known as national Capital of the Cherry, one of the main fruit products grown here. Every year they perform a Cherry Festival in the first days of January.
In the rivers surrounding the lakes, you will find species such as brown and rainbow trout, temptation to fishermen around the world. Here is the perfect spot for fly fishing in any season.
Due to its location in the bordering area with Chile, and only 60km from Argentina’s national highway Ruta 40, part of the Panamericana, the region is very attractive for self-drive tours in Patagonia, connecting both countries.

DID YOU KNOW THAT...
... The word Tango came from slaves as it was related to the places where the Afro-Argentine and Afro-Uruguayan communities used to dance.

... Famous Perito Moreno Glacier in South Patagonia is one of the  very few glaciers in the world that is not retreating, but accumulating mass at a rate similar or superior to its loss.

... The Italian digestif Fernet is very popular in Argentina, being mixed with Coca Cola as long drink “Fernet con Coca” – rumour has it that Argentina is the biggest consumer of Fernet worldwide.

... Argentina is known as a country of immigrants, but while most people think of immigrants with Italian or Spanish origin, there are also many people from other countries that have found a new home in Argentina, such as Armenian people living in Buenos Aires, or Welsh communities in the South, in the region of Chubut.

... Typically Mendoza is known as the main region for the production of wine in Argentina. However, there are also some wines being cultivated in the South of Argentina, Patagonia, or in the Province of Buenos Aires, near Mar del Plata at the Atlantic coastline.

... Argentineans are crazy for international rock & pop stars and love going to huge concerts – last year for instance Coldplay played in total 10 concerts during one tour only!
