SAT BRAZIL

Dear Travel Partner!

As you know, this year we celebrate our 50th Anniversary!

With our last Newsletter, you learned in detail about the SAT story and how we became what we are today, your leading DMC in South America! However, SAT would not be the same without the people working with us. Today we want to start introducing some of the people on our local SAT teams who make this success possible.

We will start with our SAT Brazil office, the first local office founded back in 1976. We hope you enjoy reading more about the people you most likely have been working with for years, and putting a face to their names.

For any requests for Brazil, please contact us anytime.

OUR SAT BRAZIL TEAM
Tania Hundertmark, General Manager SAT Brazil
Greetings from Brazil!
My name is Tania Hundertmark and I am the General Manager of SAT Brazil.
I have been in this role for more than 3 decades now, along with a great team of experienced and passionate co-workers.
SAT Brazil is the oldest of the local SAT offices, it was founded in 1976 and since then it has been a leading DMC in the country, handling from Incentives to Cruise ships, from tour series to tailor-made FITs of the biggest tour operators in our main markets to the smallest specialists.
Brazil is a fantastic travel destination that offers a variety of great experiences for its visitors. With almost 7500km of coastline stretching along the Atlantic ocean, the beaches are most beautiful, in some areas still untouched. There is the gigantic area of the Amazon and the mystical and enchanted Iguassu falls. It is hard to say which is my favorite, definitely the nature-preserved island of Fernando de Noronha would be on one of the top positions.
Brazilians are friendly, you will find many artisans, street musicians and poets, definitely a talented and art passionate population. In Brazil, we speak portuguese as we were colonized by the Portuguese in the 16th century. Tourism has always been one of the biggest potentials of this huge country, being Rio one of the main gateways to visit Brazil and South America.
Bringing these destinations closer to our dear clients and making our passengers happy and satisfied with the trips to Brazil has been the biggest achievement for me and my team.
PATRICIA DEDAVID, Operations Manager
I have been to many places in Brazil, but I am passionate about Rio de Janeiro. Lucky me, it is the city I live in! What I like most is the possibility of enjoying a really charming big city and at the same time, being very close to nature. Besides the enchanting beaches surrounding the city, we have breathtaking belvederes and the Atlantic Forest just around the corner!
In general, tourists are looking for beautiful beaches and breathtaking landscapes, which are - without a shadow of a doubt - amazing!
But did you know that, besides all those famous wonderful attractions, Rio de Janeiro has beautiful religious temples?
Yes… few people know about religious tourism in Rio. My very favorite temple is the São Bento Church and Monastery. It has a simple exterior but an absolutely divine gilded baroque interior. Precisely this simplicity and sobriety of the facade makes visitors run out of breath when they enter the church, since nothing gives an idea of what is going to be found inside.
JACQUELINE TENORIO, Product Development & Sales Executive
Ilha Grande is located just two hours south of Rio de Janeiro; there’s absolutely no reason to not visit this tropical island - Ilha Grande, Brazil.  This large island is covered in tropical lush jungle, hiking paths and white sand beaches.

My favorite is Lopes Mendes Beach, which has consistently been voted as one of the Top 5 Beaches in the World, although there are many beautiful beaches, coves, and spots on Ilha Grande, only accessible by boat. Doing a regular boat tour or a private speedboat (the best choice) allows you to see more of the island.

It is the fifth biggest Brazilian oceanic island and was already elected as one of the seven wonders of the state of Rio de Janeiro; in June 2019 it became a UNESCO's patrimony and was recognized as part of the Biosphere Reserve of the Atlantic Forest.
As a beach destination, anyone who loves Nature, Adventure and Ecotourism cannot waste the opportunity to visit the Island.
BETTINA FLOHR, Senior Account Executive
My name is Bettina and I have been working at SAT since 1999.
Rio de Janeiro is by far my favorite city in Brazil and it is also the city I was born and where I live.

The Palácio do Catete, an urban mansion in Rio´s “Catete” neighborhood, is my favorite spot in Rio.
Construction began in 1858 and ended in 1867. From 1897 to 1960, it was Brazil's presidential palace and it now houses the Republic Museum and a theatre.
The beautiful gardens are open to the public and access is free of charge. During the weekends fairs with food and wine tasting take place.
ANA CASTRO, Supervisor Product Development & Sales
Morro de São Paulo is an amazing destination in Brazil, a wonderful island not far from Salvador.

Natural pools formed by reefs, warm waters; you can find everything from busy beaches to almost isolated ones. Not to mention the charming village with restaurants and shops selling local handicrafts.

If you want to relax and enjoy life at a slower pace this place is for you, but try to avoid peak season, the island can be overcrowded.
SIMONE CHAVES, Account Executive
Hello! Brazil is huge and each region has its beauties, culture, and traditions, which enchant everyone who visits there.

I love the northeast, with its wild beaches and warm waters.
Fernando de Noronha Island, in Pernambuco, is unique, beautiful, with its preserved fauna and flora (beautiful).
I also highlight Porto de Galinhas, also in Pernambuco, with its coral reefs, forming small natural pools on the beach.
Jericoacara in Ceará, is another unique place, still rustic, with its sand dunes, beautiful sunset, and an ideal beach for windsurfing and kite surfing.
In Rio de Janeiro, I really like Buzios, Arraial do Cabo and Praia Seca, small coastal cities, visited by the “cariocas” on the weekends and holidays, due to the beaches, lagoon,  and nature, which provide many nautical leisure options, or simply moments of relaxation by the sea.
ANA MACEDO, Account Executive
I love Curitiba!
The city has been elected one of the best cultural destinations in Brazil, has already received a Sustainable Transport award, its Botanical Garden is among the 10 most beautiful in the world, it houses one of the 20 most beautiful museums in the world and a large list of places to go.

You may have heard about Santa Felicidade, a place with a choice of typical Italian restaurants, offering the delicious dishes of the Italian cuisine.
I suggest you to try the cozy Velho Madalosso restaurant.  I will give you a hint, don’t eat too much before, because you will have a rich menu to try!
Also the cold climate of the city is perfect for enjoying a chocolate in one the pastry shops in the city.
I am sure you will love Curitiba, like I do!

Swimming with pink river dolphins

What could be more amazing and magical than taking a swim with these lively creatures? Nothing....

Manaus is one of the few spots on the PLANET where you may swim with pink river dolphins in their natural habitat in total peace.
The pink river dolphin is found only in the Amazon region. So if I had to choose one place in Brazil would be certainly the Northern Region. It is for sure an indescribable experience, you need to feel it to understand the power of it!

Stand-up paddle in the Rio Negro (Black river)
One of my favorite things in the world is to paddle over the shallow and calm waters enjoying the ambiance of the jungle.
Watching the local wildlife as I travel up the river with no engine to drown out the sounds of the rainforest. This is undoubtedly one of the most amazing experiences ever.
LEDA ANDRADE, Account Executive
One of my favorite cities is Buzios!

I think Búzios has a vibrant, laid back, and relaxing atmosphere.
As I am a person who loves the outdoors, the sea and nature, I love going to the beaches in Búzios, taking boat trips or just walking on the sand or through the Rua das Pedras.
The first time I was there was an impacting spiritual experience because I quickly relaxed and integrated myself into the space and the city as if I had already had known it for a long time!
SOME TIPS FROM THE TEAM
HIDDEN TREASURES: Royal Portuguese Cabinet of Reading
Have you ever heard about the Real Gabinete Português da Leitura, the Royal Portuguese Cabinet of Reading?

This historical Reading Room is an outstandingly beautiful library for those looking for an off-the-beaten-track experience in Rio de Janeiro.
It is known as one of the most beautiful libraries in the world, a real hidden treasure in Rio's city center and an absolute must-visit.
The plain exterior masks the inside which is breathtakingly beautiful with its lavish decorations and historical settings.

A Portuguese colony since 1500, Brazil gained independence in 1822. But a group of 43 Portuguese immigrants and political refugees wanted to preserve their written heritage. The collection they started is now the largest collection of Portuguese works outside of Portugal.
This public library is a fascinating indoor attraction founded on May 14, 1837 and finally inaugurated by Princess Isabel on September 10, 1887.
