CARNAVAL DE ORURO, BOLIVIA: INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE OF HUMANITY
The colourful carnival in Oruro is more than 2000 years old and you can certainly tell. It is totally different from all the other places in South America as it proudly celebrates its pre-Christian origins. But be warned: this celebration involves A LOT of water fights (mainly from children) on the streets before and during the festivities! Prepare to get targeted! The Oruro carnival pays homage to the city’s patron saint ‘Virgen del Socavón’ (The virgin of the mineshaft). The Oruro Diablada (devil dance) is danced in her honour and involves performers dressing up in highly decorated and colourful devil costumes and parading through the town. The four kilometres parade is basically a pilgrimage that ends up at the virgin's shrine. For more information, please contact us! @Picture by Felipe Abreu
EXPERIENCE THE BEST OF CHILE ON A SMALL GROUP TOUR WITH SAT
On our 11-day group journey to Chile, travellers explore the modern city of Santiago, discover the lake district with its enchanted waters and massive volcanoes and get close to the millennial glaciers of Patagonia. Our small group tours depart on several pre-arranged dates with a maximum of 12 pax and offer the opportunity to travel comfortably and in like-minded company. There are two hotel options to chose from in each destination and the domestic flights can be easily booked through us. LATAM's new direct flight between Frankfurt (Germany) and Santiago de Chile is fitting the dates perfectly (same for our Argentina-Chile country combinations). For more information on the itinerary and departure dates, please contact us!
CARNIVAL IN SALVADOR, BRAZIL: THE WORLD'S BIGGEST STREET PARTY
Brazil is home to some of the most eclectic carnival parties in the world. Unlike Rio where the main parades are held in closed arenas, Salvador’s parades move along the city’s streets on different circuits! The Campo Grande Circuit is the carnival’s oldest and covers the city centre. It takes 7 hours and ends at Salvador's main square. The Barra-Ondina Circuit is a more recent creation along the city’s glitzy beachfront. The third Circuit takes place in the city’s beautiful colonial district, Pelourinho! Here it's all about brass and drums and it's a lot more chilled than the other two circuits, so much so in fact that the best way to take it all in is to grab a table at one of the bars along the route and watch the parades happen just metres from your ice cold caipirinha. For more information and ideas for your next year's Carnival plans, please contact us!
ROAD TRIP URUGUAY: EXPLORE THE COUNTRY AT YOUR OWN PACE
Uruguay ist the second-smallest country in South America, located right between its big neighbours Brazil and Argentina. Yet the country has surprisingly much to offer: lush rolling hills, wide grasslands and grazing horses, huge sand dunes, excellent wines, traditional farms, colonial cities and modern beach resorts. Uruguay is the perfect destination for travellers who like to explore a country by car, at their own pace. Our 15-day self-drive journey starts in Colonia del Sacramento and follows the route to Carmelo, on to Fray Bentos, Tranqueras, Lago Merín and La Coronilla. It also covers the famous sea side resort of Punta del Este. The journey ends in Montevideo. We will pre-book authentic accommodation along the way and a few essential tours that will help you to get the most out of your trip. The rest is up to you! For more information please contact our team in Uruguay!
CARNIVAL OF BARRANQUILLA: INSIDE COLOMBIA'S LARGEST FESTIVAL
Considered the second biggest in South America after Rio’s, El Carnaval de Barranquilla is a mix of history, bright colors, music and dance. Over one million people are attending each year and it is deemed so special that it was named a ‘ Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’ by UNESCO. The most incredible array of music is covered during the festival, from reggae to more traditional Spanish rhythms to get completely swept away. This carnival has strong African links, with many dances and performances originating from the Congo. El Carnaval de Barranquilla is a spectacular display of Colombian customs and colors, with a Caribbean twist. Contact us for more information and packages!
DELFIN AMAZON CRUISES: ON THE TRAILS OF THE PINK RIVER DOLPHIN
The Pink Amazon River Dolphin is likely to be the highlight of anyone’s trip to the Amazon Rainforest. That is, if you’re lucky enough to spot one. This dwindling species makes its home in the majestic Amazon River and its tributaries and every now and again one of them pops its head up in front of a small boat of delighted adventurers. This March and April, Delfin Amazon Cruises is welcoming Dr. Joanna Alfaro on board the Delfin III vessel to host a series of special Pink River Dolphin cruises. While aboard with Dr. Joanna Alfaro, guests can expect to get a closer look at this fascinating species. Although the Pink Amazon River dolphin is rare, the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve is the place on earth to spot one. While there are no guarantees, your odds are good. But, don’t be disappointed if this curious creature eludes you. This enormous park is teeming with other wildlife, including jaguars, caimans and pumas.
