OCTOBER 2019 - THE HALLOWEEN EDITION

Dear Travel Partner,

did you notice? There is pumpkin spice in the air! Yes, it's time to get into the spooky spirit!

Witch Night (Halloween) and All Saint's Day (Day of the Dead) have been significant celebrations in South America for a very long time. While Colombia has embraced the American aspects of Halloween more than any other country in South America (and is said to be one of the best Halloween destinations worldwide), other countries such as Ecuador and Peru still have a more spiritual approach to this time of the year.

Curious about local traditions, ghostly tales, mummy facts and spine-tingling events? Well, enjoy reading and...
Happy Halloween!

AN EERIE SAT TRADITION IN PERU: BEWITCHED OFFICE CELEBRATIONS!
Is it possible to live through the time of Halloween without throwing a party? Well, the short answer is no. It would be just cruel to make people work the whole Halloween day without any fun. Which is why Diana, the General Manager of SAT Peru, decided to establish a yearly office party for the whole team and their families. The office is decorated, a face painter is hired, everyone dresses up, there is a costume contest, a themed buffet plus small gifts and treats for the kids. Traditions are just as important in companies as they are in families - and this one is a keeper! SAT Peru sends Halloween greetings!
ECUADOR AND ITS DAY OF THE DECEASED: A CHEERFUL FAMILY CELEBRATION
Those days of late October and early November are not a time of ghouls or witches in Ecuador, but a time to remember family and friends who have passed on. The Día de los Difuntos, Day of the Deceased, is celebrated on November 2nd. It is believed that the dead return for just one night from the afterworld to visit their beloved ones. People rise early that day, preparing Guaguas de Pan (sweet bread dolls) and Colada Morada, a hot drink made of black corn, fruit and spices. The cemeteries are open all night, as families gather around the graves to share a meal with the departed. A peaceful, yet cheerful experience. Request your journey to Ecuador!
THE GHOSTS OF MONTEVIDEO: EXPLORING THE SECRETS OF PALACIO SALVO
Montevideo’s iconic Palacio Salvo has seen many characters passing through its corridors and some apparently never left. Rumour has it that the ghost of Jose Salvo who died only 5 years after the inauguration of his monumental work, is still watching over the building and its residents. He is a lovely and elegant ghost, so they say, who dresses in a black coat and hat, and always has his umbrella on hand. Pedro, as they call him, chases off burglars and gives alert in the case of a fire. You most likely meet him at the staircase or on the 7th floor. We'll take you there! Join us on a tour to Palacio Salvo and dive into the secrets that were born with the Salvo brothers, and maybe never died. Contact us for more information!
DISCOVER REAL MUMMIES IN NORTHERN CHILE: THE CHINCHORRO MUMMIES!
Chile's Chinchorro Mummies are the oldest mummies ever found, much older even than the mummies in ancient Egypt! The Chinchorro people lived along the Atacama coast and used to practice mummification on all members of their society. The Azapa valley is a fertile oasis just outside Arica, and more than 280 mummies have been uncovered by archaeologists in this region. The archeological museum of San Miguel de Azapa displays mummy remains, jewels and artefacts and is a must go to for everyone interested in learning more about the Chinchorro people.
