COLOMBIA - SAT IS OFFICIAL PARTNER FOR CHIRIBIQUETE FLIGHTS
We are proud to announce that SAT is one of the 20 operators authorized to organize and sell flights over the breathtaking Serranía de Chiribiquete Natural National Park. It is the biggest national park in Colombia as well as Latin America and has been recognized as a Natural and Cultural World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Starting June 2019, it will also be Colombia's first national park to offer ecotouristic visits in the form of overflights.
We have been authorized for two exclusive overflights, one in June 2019 and the other in January 2020. Furthermore, we will cooperate with other licensed operators to offer 22 additional shared flights that will be spread between June, July, October and December 2019 and January 2020. In order to keep the impact on the park's biodiversity and the isolated indigenous tribes to a minimum, there will be only 2 flights per week with a maximum of 8 passengers per flight. The model of the aircraft and the exact routing are yet to be announced by the authorities.
The flights will be a unique and spectacular way to explore one of the most beautiful landscapes Colombia has to offer! To register your interest and receive updates, please contact us!

COLCA Y VOLCANES DE ANDAGUA UNESCO GLOBAL GEOPARK - PERU
This month, the stunning landscape surrounding the Colca Canyon in the Southern Peruvian Andes officially received the UNESCO Global Geopark Label and is now known as "Colca y Volcanes de Andagua UNESCO Global Geopark". It was formed 400 million years ago and is characterized by volcanic landscapes, lakes and geological faults, amongst them the famous Colca Canyon - one of the deepest canyons in the world. Besides its natural beauty, the Geopark has cultural highlights to offer, like pre-Hispanic ruins, colonial churches and picturesque villages. The Geopark can be best reached by car from either Arequipa or Lake Titicaca and is the perfect stopover between the two. Only one night is enough to immerse yourself in the magnificence of the geopark. The landscape is perfect for hikes and trekkings and you shouldn´t miss a visit to the Cruz del Condor, a viewpoint to spot majestic condors gliding through the canyon. And what better way to end a day of exploring than by soaking in the local hot springs? There are numerous hotels to ensure the perfect stay and offer culinary delights. Please contact us for travel ideas and packages!
SUSTAINABLE MACHU PICCHU
Aguas Calientes, the town at the foot of the famous Machu Picchu ruin site, became the first Latin American city to manage 100% of its solid waste. This success was made possible by an initiative between the Municipality Machu Picchu, the beverage company AJE Group and the Peruvian hotel group Inkaterra. Their efforts started in 2017 with the donation of a Plastic Compactor Plant to recycle trash from the Inca Trail which managed to prevent Machu Picchu entering UNESCO's List of Heritage at Risk. Last year, the Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel inaugurated a Biodiesel and Glycerin Plant. Now, the AJE Group and Inkaterra introduced a new Organic Waste Treatment Plant to de-compose waste without oxygen and produce a natural bio-coal fertilizer used to restore the local cloud forest. The town's inhabitants do their part by separating waste in their homes and businesses.
IGUAZU, ARGENTINA - THE SECRET OF LA LORENZA
Today, we want to introduce you to a lovely gem just 45 minutes from Puerto Iguazu. If you want to explore a different side of Iguazu apart from its world-famous waterfalls, La Lorenza is just what you are looking for! The private reserve is nestled along the shore of the Paraná River and is the perfect getaway for nature lovers, birdwatchers or avid photographers. La Lorenza offers three half-day excursions that can also be combined into a full-day adventure. All experiences are private, accompanied by an English speaking guide and for a maximum of 12 people. Each excursion includes a hike through the beautiful forest to discover local wildlife and plants. In addition to that, you can visit a local farmer to learn about his vegetable garden and the cultivation of mate, a traditional Argentinian infusion. If you prefer to get active, how about a kayak ride on rivers Paraná and Urugua-í? For a more relaxed approach, you can opt for a boat ride to the Yasy waterfall. Each experience ends with snacks and drinks on a private deck overlooking the river. Want to know more? Then contact us now for tour descriptions and rates!
VISIT THE GARDEN OF QUITO - ECUADOR
The Yanacocha Reserve, located on the western slope of the Pichincha Volcano at an altitude between 3.200 and 4.400 meters, is the perfect getaway just 1 hour from Quito. It is well known as a paradise for wildlife observation, especially birds, and with its green rolling hills it truly deserves the nickname "Garden of Quito". After arriving at the reserve, you can restore your strength at the restaurant run by a local indigenous family before starting your exploration. We suggest starting at the visitor center for explanations about the reserve and the trap cameras used to photograph ocelots, bears and other animals. During a hike along the different paths, you can visit a viewpoint to overlook the valley and feeding stations for hummingbirds and other birds. Yanacocha is renowned for its variety of hummingbirds; more than 40 species have been spotted here, including the Great Sapphire Wing, the Shining Sunbeam and the Masked Flower Piercer! Due to the altitude it can get a bit cold at the reserve so we recommend bringing warm clothes. For more information about visiting the Yanacocha Reserve, please contact us!
MICONIA “PLANT A TREE” PROGRAM
The Royal Palms Hotel Galapagos in the highland forests of Santa Cruz Island has introduced a reforestation program for the Miconia shrub which is endemic to the highlands of the islands Santa Cruz and San Cristobal. It can be found at an altitude of 500-700 meters above sea level and grows to a height of approximately 3-4 meters. Its coloring changes from green during the hotter months to slightly reddish in the humid and rainy months. Since the Miconia shrub is endangered and faces extinction in the wild, guests of the Royal Palms Hotel can support its preservation by planting a shrub during their stay together with Galapagos National Park team experts. Contact us to learn more about the project and how to include it in your tours!

MEET THE SAT TEAM: CELIA KLAIBOR, SAT PERU
Celia joined the team of SAT Peru in 2016 and has been the Supervisor of Product Development & Sales for almost 1 year. As such, Celia is always on the lookout for exciting new products and out-of-the-ordinary experiences.
Her passion for travel started at a very young age when joining the scouts in Germany. They would travel all around Europe and it piqued Celia's interest in other cultures and countries. She first came to Peru for a voluntary service after school and fell in love with this diverse country and its warmhearted people.
Celia has travelled through Brazil and Ecuador and has explored almost every corner of Peru. One of her latest highlights was the Chachapoyas region in the north of Peru as it is still so pure and there is so much left to discover, including the ruin site of Kuelap. When Celia is not busy planning her next “explorer escape”, she loves to go to fairs with friends and explore new cafés in the bustling culinary city of Lima.
If you would like Celia to share some of her tips with you and help you to create your travel experience in Peru, you can contact her here!
