SAT NEWS - SEPTEMBER 2017

Dear Travel Partner,

its vast size and altitude contrasts means there is no single best time to visit South America. June, for example, offers steamy 30°C in the Amazon, but snow and ice will shut down much of southern Patagonia, which is best visited from November to February. September and October offer a good balance in many places though, with generally comfortable  temperatures and dry weather. This is a good time - get packed ;).

Below you will find a collection of the latest products and country news for you to browse and get inspired, e.g. Yoga and Meditation in Northern Argentina, chocolate delights in Peru and LGBTQ departures onboard the Galapagos Sea Star Journey. We are happy to assist with specific requests and would love to hear back from you!

All the best,
Your SAT Team

ARGENTINA - MEDITATION & YOGA IN THE MISIONES RAINFOREST
In these fast times, SAT invites you to find stillness of mind inmidst the heart of the lush Misiones jungle. The Yacutinga Lodge has been a hidden haven for nature lovers for over 16 years. Their new program Yacutinga Insight was created for people that are longing for a nature retreat, but also care about other elements such as yoga, meditation or health-conscious nutrition. A small yoga area was added to the grounds, as well as a meditation tower, which allows guests to enjoy relaxation lessons while sitting right above the tree tops. The hummingbird garden is yet another lovely place to slow down time, especially when night comes and the sky is full of stars. The 4-day program includes the practice of meditation, Pranayama and Hatha yoga, as well as vegan or vegetarian meals. Optional eco-tours such as canoeing along the Iguazu river or interpretative hikes in the jungle are available on the spot. More information here.
HIDDEN WONDERS OF PERU - VINICUNCA, THE RAINBOW MOUNTAIN
Vinicunca, the Rainbow Mountain, is still slightly off the beaten path. It is located in the Willkanuta Mountain Range, nestled in the greater Andes Mountains, about 3 hours from Cusco. The most popular route to see Vinicunca is the 6-day Ausangate Trek. It is one of the quietest in the region, with only a few hikers to be seen. There are fields full of alpacas and lamas, red mountains, snowy peaks and lakes. The trek isn’t an easy one and nights are spent in local houses or camping sites. For travelers with little time there are 2-day trips from Cusco. Hiking season for Vinicunca is between May and September. While the Inca Trail is the most famous hike in Peru, this one might be the most memorable. Intrigued? Then please contact us!
CHOCOLATE, COCOA & COFFEE TOURS AROUND CUSCO
In cooperation with ChocoMuseo Cusco, SAT brings you to different Peruvian cocoa plantations to meet the cocoa farmers. In our comprehensive tours you will learn how cocoa grows, discover the environment of the cocoa tree and be able to taste a whole rand of tropical fruits. 2 and 3-day farmstay packages are available. You will live with local families and have the privilege to share their everyday life. A visit to Machu Picchu can be arranged as a part of the package. Please contact us for further information!
BRAZIL - WHALE WATCHING IN PRAIA DO FORTE, BAHIA
Each year from July to October, Praia do Forte welcomes the peaceful giants of the sea, migrating from the chilly South Pole waters to the warm waters of Bahia, where they devote most of their time to mating and giving birth to their calves. The SAT whale watching experience starts at the Humpback Whale Institute in Praia do Forte, early in the morning. During a 30-minute lecture guests receive research information on the life and habits of these huge creatures. After that we are ready to embark on a schooner cruise, observing the whales along a route of approx. 25 nautical miles. The excursion is subject to weather & ocean conditions. Program details and rates on request.
CHILE - SOUTHERNMOST PATAGONIA & LAND CROSSING FROM CHILE TO ARGENTINA
SAT invites you to experience a real "End of the World" Adventure, with a stay at Lakutaia Lodge close to Puerto Williams (Isla Navarino, Chile). The lodge not only serves as a comfy overnight stop on your way from Punta Arenas to Ushuaia in Argentina, it is also well worth an extended stay, taking in all the natural wonders this area has to offer. Apart from simple bed & breakfast options and comprehensive 2-4 day packages that include transfers, excursions and meals, Lakutaia also offers special interest programs. Enjoy a 4-day Uttermost Antarctic program, including a full-day visit to King George Island and the white continent. For lovers of fly fishing, SAT recommends the 8-day HeliFishing trip. Guests are transferred (by helicopter) to different remote fly fishing areas of Chilean Patagonia. Please  contact us for further information!
POLAR LATITUDES PRESENTS NEW ANTARCTICA SHIP "ISLAND SKY"
Hebridean Sky has a new sister! In December 2018 sister ship MS Island Sky will be joining the Polar Latitudes family in Antarctica. Built in the same Italian Shipyard, both ships boast spacious, well-appointed suites, stylish common areas, and redundant core technology that allows them to operate smoothly, even under the most challenging of conditions. Both ships are all-suite, all-inclusive small expedition vessels with touches of elegance throughout. For itineraries, departure dates and bookings, please contact us!
COLOMBIA - WOODEN WALKWAYS AND A VIEWPOINT FOR CAÑO CRISTALES
The Ministry of Tourism of Colombia gave green light for the construction of wooden walkways and bridges across the Caño Cristales, plus the creation of a viewpoint. A visitor center will be established, providing information on the area, a resting area and lavatories. This project shall not only facilitate the access to Caño Cristales but also help to guarantee a sustainable and responsible tourism in the area. The walkways are expected to be in place by mid-2018.
ECUADOR & GALAPAGOS - SEA STAR JOURNEY's LGBTQ DEPARTURES & NEW CATAMARAN
Ecuador is one of the first countries in Latin America that has given rights to the LGBTQ community. One of the highlights of Ecuador, and one of the gayest friendly destinations in the country are the Galapagos Islands. In 2018, SAT and Latin Trails are offering 3 specific departures onboard the Galapagos Sea Star Journey. One is for men only, one for women only, and one is mixed. Latin Trails also announced a new boat to join the Galapagos Journey Fleet: The Galapagos Hopper. This first class catamaran is ideal for hotel based island hopping tours, departing daily from San Cristobal to Leon Dormido, Punta Pitt and Isla Española. Please  contact us for further details on the SAT Galapagos product and LGBTQ departure dates.
+++ The Ministry of Tourism of Ecuador has informed that a private Medical Insurance will be required of all international travelers entering Ecuador as of February 2018. Travelers will need a full coverage insurance (including emergencies, health problems, evacuation, death, etc). The Ministry is still working on the procedures coming with these new requirements. SAT will keep you posted! +++
URUGUAY - INAUGURATION OF THE RUTA UNESCO
