The Marathon des Sables (Marathon of the Sands) is known to be
the toughest long distance running race in the world. In November 2017 this extreme challenge is
coming to Peru. Participants sign up for a multiday, 250 km (155 miles) long, self-sufficient ultramarathon through the Ica desert in southern Peru, one of the driest regions on earth. The Ica desert features
enormous dunes and
sandy plateaus

THE WHITES OF THE PUNA: THE GREAT SALT FIELDS OF ARGENTINA

Salinas Grandes comprise
one of the most beautiful landscapes in the Argentinean Puna. At 3450 meters above sea level, the
blue of the sky merges with the
shiny white of the salt fields. The saltpeter soil draws perfect hexagons. The
turquoise blue pools turn into an incredible oasis. The ever-changing light invites visitors to play with their cameras. 10,000 years ago, this site was a sweet waters lake, swampy and with large vegetation. On April 10, 2017, construction began on Quito's Metropolitan Convention Center, a state-of-the-art center that will boost the city's offering as a leading destination for meetings, incentives, conventions & exhibitions at a regional and global level. This new space is expected to open in the second half of 2018. Located in Quito's Bicentennial Park and surrounded by beautiful green spaces, the new Convention Center will offer 28,000 square feet of meetings space. and its foundation are dedicated to sustainable tourism and continuously develop flora and fauna conservation projects, involving the local community in this work. One of the Foundation´s
flagship projects is the
conservation of the Huemul (Andean deer). This animal is a national symbol, but in danger of extinction. This project has succeeded in preserving and breeding the Huemul in a controlled environment.

American Airlines is launching daily flights between Miami and Cartagena as of December 15, 2017. The flight will be operated by an Airbus A319, covers a distance of roughly 1767 km, and will take about three hours in each direction.
As of the 1st of May, only 3 weeks after having launched the new flights, Star Perú will no longer operate the route Lima-Pisco-Cusco.

LATAM Airlines has inaugurated four weekly flights between Lima (Peru) and Mendoza in Argentina's wine country. The flight is operated daily from Fri to Mon, whereas the return flights Mendoza-Lima are on Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun.
